Lakeshore East Spotlight: The Chandler

The Chandler is a contemporary condominium overlooking the Chicago River within Chicago’s New Eastside neighborhood. This condominium has countless amenities that its residents enjoy. When the construction of the Chandler started, there were several changes and additions made. Let’s look at how the Chandler was built and some of the amazing features the building has.

Construction History

Located at 450 E Waterside Drive and built in 2007, all preconstruction sales were handled by Magellan Development. The Chandler does not have any windows on the east side of the building up to the 12th floor in order to accommodate a future connected midrise. While timeframe and construction details of the midrise remain undetermined, the project is still green lit and in its planning phase.   

The developer allowed buyers to purchase multiple condos so they could combine them into larger floor plans. This also allowed buyers to have customized spaces. For example, condo #2801 is three units combined to create a four-bedroom, three full/two half-bath space. This specific unit is 5,000 square feet with incredible views of the Chicago River and Navy Pier. This unit was resold in 2015 for just under 3.5 million dollars and is still the most expensive resale for The Chandler.

To accommodate plumbing and ductwork, some floors in the building have higher ceilings than other floors. The 12th, 19th, and 29th floors have noticeably higher ceilings. The 30th-34th floors strictly contain five penthouses on each floor. Floors 30 through 33 have 11’ ceilings and the 34th floor has 14’ ceilings.

In 2021, there was an outdoor patio added to The Chandler’s relaxing outdoor spaces. There are also plans to renovate the hallways in 2022.

Excellent Amenities

The Chandler has many shared amenities such as an exercise room, indoor pool, social gathering room, and much more that its residents can enjoy. Residents speak highly of the sense of community and friendship The Chandler creates. The building is carefully governed by an association focused on its long-term success.

Each individual unit features granite countertops, hardwood floors, and a washer and dryer set. Residents can also purchase parking spots in The Chandler’s garage. There is a 24-hour desk as well as maintenance staff to help with any issues that may come up.

Beyond the building’s amenities, The Chandler is steps away from many of Chicago’s popular attractions. Lakeshore East Park is right next to the condominium. This 6-acre park has a botanical area, a playground for children and pets, and a huge open space for endless outdoor activities. The Chandler is also within walking distance of the Orchestra Hall, the Art Institute of Chicago, Grant Park, and Navy Pier.

There are endless experiences when you choose to call The Chandler “home.” The variety of parks and entertainment venues always brings new experiences for those who want to try something different. The Chandler provides convenience between home, work, and entertainment. The condominium is at the center of a major Chicago district but away from the hectic urban center. Because of this, the Chandler lifestyle provides a relaxing atmosphere for its residents. At the end of each day, you can enjoy the Chicago skyline and make coming home an occasion as Navy Pier fireworks light up the sky twice each week!
