As the summer season approaches its final stretch, Lakeshore East residents have an array of exciting events to look forward to. From movie screenings to spectacular shows, here are some must-attend activities that will make your summer unforgettable.
1. Last Movie of the Season in Lakeshore East Park

On Thursday, August 17th, Lakeshore East Park invites you to its final movie screening of the season. The evening will kick off with the screening of "Top Gun Maverick" at sundown (around 8:30 PM). Grab your friends, blankets, and some snacks for a memorable movie night under the stars.

2. Millennium Park Film Series

Millennium Park, known for its cultural events, is hosting a film series every Tuesday in August at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. Beginning at 6:30 PM, bring your lawn chairs and join in on the free admission screenings. Some of the movies to look forward to include "Clueless" on August 8th, "Top Gun Maverick" on August 15th, "Barbershop" on August 22nd, and "Everything Everywhere All at Once" on August 29th.
3.  The Duck Derby on the Chicago River

On August 10th, don't miss the thrilling Duck Derby on the Chicago River! Head to the Columbus Drive Bridge and watch as the ducks race their way to victory. Multiple locations around the area will give you great views of the race. This event not only promises fun and excitement but also serves as a fundraiser for the Special Olympics Illinois.
4.  Sundays on State

Experience the best of State Street on August 13th as portions of the iconic street close to vehicular traffic for "Sundays on State." This event offers a unique blend of activities, including active recreation, shopping, entertainment, food, drinks, art, and surprises around every corner. 5.  Air & Water Show

Prepare to be amazed by the spectacular Chicago Air and Water Show on August 19th and 20th. Presented by the City of Chicago, this is the largest free show of its kind in the United States. Find a comfortable spot along the lakefront or on rooftops in the New Eastside Neighborhood to witness breathtaking aerial and water performances.
6.  Navy Pier Fireworks

Experience Chicago's favorite sky spectacle with the Navy Pier Fireworks. Taking place every Wednesday night at 9 PM and Saturday night at 10 PM until Labor Day weekend, these fireworks can be viewed from various locations throughout the neighborhood.
7.  Jazz in The Park at Lakeshore East

On Tuesday, August 22nd, Lakeshore East Park will come alive with the soulful sounds of "Jazz in The Park." Sponsored by The Jazz Institute of Chicago, Magellan Development Group, The St. Regis Chicago, and Miru, this event promises to be an evening filled with exceptional music. Make sure to visit the St. Regis Chicago tent for a photo opportunity and a chance to write a postcard that will inspire exquisite travels.
8.  Stand-up Comedy at the Drunken Bean

Laughter is guaranteed at the Drunken Bean, a coffee and wine bar located at 400 E Southwater, every Tuesday at 7:30 PM. Hosted by Carter Dockerty, the night will be filled with stand-up comedy performances that will have you rolling in the aisles. Unwind and enjoy the show in this cozy venue nestled in the heart of Lakeshore East.
9.  ART on THE MART

Take a leisurely stroll down the Riverwalk and experience "ART on THE MART." As the world's largest digital art platform, this mesmerizing display transforms the 2.5-acre façade of THE MART into a larger-than-life canvas. Cutting-edge video mapping techniques showcase contemporary art projections. The show runs until September 13th from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
10. Cirque Returns to The Grant Park Music Festival

On Wednesday, August 9th, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, witness an enchanting performance by Cirque at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. Free seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in the back half of the Seating Bowl. Arrive early to secure your spot. Before the concert, enjoy Pre-Concert Family Activities with CircEsteem, where you can learn juggling, plate spinning, and more.
