Summer is one of the best times to live in Lakeshore East. Between movie nights in the park, Riverwalk dining, farmers markets, lakefront walks, neighborhood events, and Millennium Park programming, you can fill a summer calendar without ever needing to get in the car.
Here are a few local events and easy summer outings to keep on your radar for 2026.
Festival in the Park at Lakeshore East
The Annual Magellan Rewards Festival in the Park returns to Lakeshore East Park on Saturday, June 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This neighborhood event brings together local retailers, restaurants, wellness providers, pet care businesses, service providers, food and drink samples, fitness classes, and live music.
It is family-friendly, pet-friendly, and a nice way to meet the businesses that make daily life in Lakeshore East feel so convenient.
The festival also includes complimentary fitness classes at the Grand Staircase, with sessions scheduled throughout the day, including strength, Pilates, and cardio boxing classes. Live music, vendor tables, and food and drink samples make it an easy event to stop by whether you live in the neighborhood or are just spending the day downtown.
Skyline Summer Movies at Lakeshore East Park
The Lakeshore East community will also host its Skyline Summer movie series at The Park at Lakeshore East, located at 450 E. Waterside Drive. These free outdoor movie nights are one of the easiest neighborhood traditions to enjoy: bring a blanket, lawn chairs, snacks, and settle in for a summer evening in the park.
Pre-show entertainment typically begins around 7:00 p.m., with movies starting at sundown, usually around 8:30 p.m.

Because outdoor events can change due to weather, it is always a good idea to check the Skyline Summer updates before heading over.
Millennium Park Summer Film Series
If you want a bigger outdoor movie experience, Millennium Park is just blocks away. The free Millennium Park Summer Film Series takes place at Jay Pritzker Pavilion, located at 201 E. Randolph Street.
The 2026 series runs on select Tuesday evenings from June 30 through August 18, with no screening on July 21.

For Lakeshore East residents, this is one of the best parts of summer downtown. You can walk over after work, bring a picnic, and enjoy a movie in one of Chicago's most recognizable outdoor settings.
Riverwalk and Lakefront Dining Within a Short Walk
One of the biggest perks of living in Lakeshore East is how easy it is to turn an ordinary summer evening into a waterfront night out. From the neighborhood, you can walk to the east end of the Chicago Riverwalk, DuSable Harbor, Maggie Daley Park, Millennium Park, and the lakefront in just a few minutes.
For a casual Riverwalk stop, Island Party Hut is a fun, laid-back option near the east end of the Riverwalk. It has more of a tropical, casual summer feel, with river views, drinks, food, outdoor seating, and a relaxed atmosphere that works well before or after a walk along the water.
TacoRio is another easy Riverwalk option, especially if you want tacos, margaritas, and an outdoor table by the water. It is located at 457 E. Riverwalk, near Lake Shore Drive, which makes it especially convenient from Lakeshore East.
If you prefer beer, cider, and a classic Riverwalk patio setting, The Northman Beer & Cider Garden is located at 233 E. Riverwalk. It has a casual beer garden feel and is a good choice for meeting friends, sitting outside, and watching the boats go by.
For lakefront dining, Cafe Michelle at DuSable Harbor is one of the easiest walkable options from Lakeshore East. It sits right along Lake Michigan at 200 N. Lakefront Trail and offers a relaxed setting with lake views, casual food, drinks, and an easy summer atmosphere.
You can also use the Choose Chicago Riverwalk dining guide to explore more restaurants and bars along the Riverwalk. Most Riverwalk spots are seasonal and weather-dependent, so it is always worth checking hours before you go.
And for concerts, festivals, and summer programming near Millennium Park and Grant Park, the Grant Park Events calendar is a helpful resource to keep bookmarked.
If you use the Magellan Rewards app, check the current offers before heading out. Recent neighborhood rewards have included discounts at Avli on The Park, Cafe Michelle, Island Party Hut, and The Northman. Offers can change, so it is always worth confirming in the app before ordering.
Daley Plaza Farmers Market
Chicago's longest-running farmers market is also close by at Daley Plaza, located at 50 W. Washington Street. The 2026 Daley Plaza Farmers Market runs Thursdays from May 21 through October 22, from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
It is a great stop for fresh seasonal produce, flowers, baked goods, and local artisan items, especially if you work downtown or want an easy weekday outing from Lakeshore East.
Why This Matters for Lakeshore East Living
These are the kinds of everyday conveniences that make Lakeshore East feel different from many other downtown neighborhoods. You have the lakefront, the Riverwalk, Millennium Park, Maggie Daley Park, neighborhood restaurants, green space, summer programming, and daily conveniences all within a short walk.
That lifestyle is a big reason people continue to choose Lakeshore East and the New Eastside. It is not just about the buildings. It is about how easy it is to actually enjoy the city once you live here.
If you are thinking about buying, selling, or just want to better understand the Lakeshore East market, I am happy to help.
